Every year on World Cancer Day a special theme (I Am and I Will) is used to make it more and more successful.

What is Cancer?

The disorder of abnormal growth of cells is called cancer. In this disease, cells start growing uncontrollably and disorderly which are not part of the normal developmental system of the body. According to experts, abnormal changes or mutations in DNA cause most types of cancer. w.h.o. According to cancer is the second largest cause of mortality worldwide.

Types of cancer

Depending on the origin of the cancer, the cancer can be divided into the following types:

  1. Carcinoma
  2. Sarcoma
  3. Leukemia
  4. Lymphoma

Apart from this, according to the part of the cancer in the body, cancer can be divided by the following names.

  1. Cervical cancer
  2. Oral cancer
  3. Uterine cancer
  4. Breast Cancer
  5. Womb cancer
  6. Ovary cancer
  7. Blood cancer
  8. colon cancer
  9. lung cancer
  10. Colon cancer
  11. Throat cancer
  12. Liver cancer
  13. Skin cancer
  14. Bladder cancer
  15. Brain cancer
  16. kidney cancer
  17. Pancreatic cancer
  18. Testicular cancer
  19. Vaginal cancer
  20. Endometrial cancer

How to identify the symptoms of cancer?

What are the early symptoms of cancer and how to identify it?

Symptoms may also vary according to which part of the body the cancer has occurred. Apart from this, some specific symptoms can also be seen which depend on the type of cancer and the location of the cancer such as-

  1. Sudden body weight
  2. Feeling tired and weak
  3. Frequent bruising in any part of the skin
  4. Feeling lumps under the skin
  5. Difficulty in breathing for a month or so
  6. Early skin scars
  7. Loss of appetite
  8. Recurrent fever
  9. Muscle and joint pain
  10. Slow healing of wounds
  11. Recurrent infection
  12. Digestive diseases such as diarrhea or constipation
  13. Change in voice

Causes that increase the risk of Cancer

First of all, we will know why cancer occurs? Cancer is usually caused by some changes or mutations in the DNA. In simple language, DNA is called the brain of cells, which instructs them to do multiplication. When there is a defect in these instructions, the cells start to grow uncontrollably and as a result cancer develops.
There are also some substances that can cause cancer. They are called carcinogens. Carcinogen is considered one of the leading causes of cancer. Apart from this, human papilloma virus can also cause cancer in some cases. There are some other carcinogens that, along with factors like diet and health, can cause cancer.

The most main risk factors for cancer include the following:

  1. Long-term consumption of tobacco or products made from it, such as cigarettes, etc., can cause cancer of the mouth and lungs.
  2. Consuming alcohol for a long time can cause liver cancer.
  3. Unhealthy foods and refined foods that are low in fiber can increase the risk of colon cancer.
  4. Certain types of hormones can also cause cancer, such as increased testosterone levels, prostate cancer and increased levels of estrogen can increase the risk of breast cancer.
  5. Even with aging, there is a risk of getting some types of cancer like- colon cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer etc.
  6. Having a cancer earlier in the family can also increase its risk. Most of the cases of breast cancer are seen in it.
  7.  Being exposed to ultraviolet rays for a long time and exposure to radiation due to repeated x-rays also increases the risk of cancer.
  8. Obesity also increases the risk of cancer. Eating a high-fat diet and reducing physical activity makes the body worse, resulting in an increased risk of cancer.

Cancer Prevention and Diagnosis

How to prevent cancer?

Cancer development can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle and reducing risk factors.
The following are some ways to prevent cancer-

  1. Do not smoke
  2. Do not drink alcohol
  3. Reduced exposure to sunlight.
  4. Take a fiber-rich diet and do not take too much fat in the diet.
  5. Do not eat canned food prepared outside.
  6. Exercise regularly.
  7. Maintain normal body weight.
  8. Check your BMI daily.
  9. If the skin starts becoming blue or any wound is not healing or if there is a disease for a long time, talk to the doctor about it.
  10. Get all the vaccines done regularly. The human papillomavirus vaccine protects against the development of cervical cancer, hepatitis B vaccine should also be applied as hepatitis B can cause liver cancer.

How is cancer tested?

For the test of cancer, doctors recommend to get some tests done, on the basis of which the cancer is confirmed.
  1. Physical test
  2. lab test : CBC, ESR, KFT, LFT
  3. Imaging test : X-RAY, CT Scan, MRI, PET Scan, SPECT Scan and USG Scan
  4. Biopsy

When to visit a doctor?

If you feel any of the symptoms mentioned then it is better to talk to the doctor as soon as possible because it is possible to prevent some symptoms of cancer in the early stage. However, it is possible to treat cancer in two ways-

1. Surgical: In this, part of the cells growing due to uneven rop is removed. This process is done by biopsy technology.
2. Non-Surgical: In this, chemotherapy procedure is used. In chemotherapy, with the help of special types of drugs, the cells growing asymptomatic are destroyed. Apart from this, radiotherapy has also been used, in which the tumor or abnormal growing fat is destroyed with the help of gamma radiation.
This treatment is out of the reach of everyone due to its expensive. So cancer can be avoided by identifying symptoms at the initial stage.

Note:-

It is important to note that not all symptoms of cancer are seen in the patient. Some people suddenly start showing symptoms in the late stages of cancer, while some people do not feel any symptoms and when they are examined for any other health problem they come to know that they are suffering from cancer. That is why a doctor should be consulted even if you feel the least symptoms of cancer.

Thyroid Disease: Types, Symptoms, Causes, Preventions, Risk Factors, Complications & Treatment

Thyroid Disease

[A Complete Guide]

Thyroid disorder is a common problem that affects more women than men. The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located inside the neck and just above the collarbone. The thyroid is a type of endocrine gland that makes hormones. There are mainly two types of thyroid- hypothyroid and hypothyroid. In hyperthyroidism the thyroid is produced in excess whereas in hypothyroidism the production of this hormone is reduced.

What is Thyroid?

The thyroid has an endocrine gland that produces two hormones called triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). The production and secretion of these hormones are controlled by thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH). TSH is produced in the pituitary whose secretion is controlled by thyroid releasing hormone or TRH. These hormones are responsible for the normal metabolic process of the body.

Thyroid problems arise when the thyroid gland produces more or less hormones. An imbalance in the production of hormones can occur due to the formation of cancerous or cancerous cells in the autoimmune or thyroid gland or inflammation in the gland. Globally, more women suffer from this disease than men. 0.5% of women suffer from thyroid as compared to 0.5% of men. The formation of more or less thyroid hormone affects every cell in the body.

Types of Thyroid Disease

Thyroid hormone plays an important role in controlling metabolic rate, food intake and thermogenesis. In hyperthyroidism, thyroid hormone starts to be produced in excess in which the levels of T3 and T4 increase and TSH levels begin to decrease. Sometimes inflammation of the thyroid gland may result in permanent hyperthyroidism. The second type of thyroid is hypothyroidism in which thyroid hormone starts to decrease and T3 and T4 serum levels decrease.

Thyroid related problems:

  1. Hyperthyroidism: In this, due to over-activation of the thyroid gland, excessive secretion of thyroid hormone starts.
  2. Hypothyroidism: In this, the thyroid gland releases less than normal thyroid hormone.
  3. Thyroid Cancer: The most dangerous form of endocrine tumor is thyroid cancer. Depending on the tissues, thyroid cancer can be classified as follows-
  • Differential Thyroid Cancer: Differential thyroid cancer occurs when papillary thyroid cancer and follicular thyroid cancer occur together. This type of cancer comes from epithelial cells and is the most common form of thyroid cancer.
  • Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer: Anaplastic thyroid cancer is a rare and rapidly growing cancer that is very difficult to treat. Only two percent of cancer is anaplastic thyroid cancer. This cancer usually occurs in adults 60 or older.

Symptoms of Thyroid Disease

The most common symptoms of Hyperthyroidism:

  • Goitre disease
  • Lose weight
  • Nervousness, anxiety, discomfort or mood swings
  • Tiredness
  • Feeling too hot
  • Breathlessness
  • Heartbeat fast
  • Sleep less
  • Excessive thirst
  • Redness or dryness in eyes
  • hair fall
The most common symptoms of Hypothyroidism:

  • Gaining weight
  • Weakening of nails and hair
  • Skin dryness and thinning
  • Hair loss
  • Feeling too cold
  • Depression
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Sore throat
  • Mental stress

The most common symptoms of Thyroid Cancer:

  • Rapid lump in the throat
  • Neck swelling
  • Change in voice
  • Difficulty swallowing food
  • respiratory distress
  • A persistent cough without any infection or allergy

Causes of Thyroid Disease

1.There are various causes of Hyperthyroidism:

  • Graves disease: It is an autoimmune disease in which auto antibodies stimulate the gland to produce and release a large amount of thyroid hormone. This problem is seen in more women than men.
  • Knee in thyroid gland: Due to formation of knot (which is not cancerous) on thyroid gland, excessive amount of hormones can be released.
  • Excess intake of iodine: Iodine is an essential micronutrient for the production of thyroid hormone. However, excessive intake of iodine can lead to hyperthyroidism.
  • Pregnancy: Hyperthyroidism can occur due to hormonal changes during pregnancy. The production of thyroid hormones may increase when cancerous cells develop in the pituitary gland.

Risk factor:

  • Pregnancy
  • Smoking
  • Autoimmune diseases such as Sjogren's syndrome

There are various causes of Hypothyroidism:

Hypothyroidism occurs due to hormone deficiency. It is of two types, one is due to the thyroid gland and the other is due to a disorder related to the pituitary gland or the hypothalamus.

Causes of primary Hypothyroidism:

  • Hashimoto's disease: The thyroid gland becomes less active due to autoimmune inflammation in the thyroid gland.
  • Deficiency of Iodine: Iodine plays an important role in the production of thyroid hormone after the thyroid gland and can cause hyperthyroidism.
  • Thyroidectomy: A surgical procedure in which the entire thyroid gland or some part of the thyroid gland is removed. This may later take the form of hypothyroidism.
  • Radiotherapy
  • Thyroid dysgenesis
  • Congenital hyperthyroidism

Causes of secondary Hypothyroidism:

  • Pituitary adenoma (growth of cancerous cells)
  • Pituitary surgery
  • Head trauma
  • Hypothalamic tumor

Risk factor:

  • If a member of the family has hypothyroidism, the risk of it increases in other members also. Congenital hypothyroidism is common in this condition. Apart from this, a diet with low iodine is also an important factor in hypothyroidism.

There are various causes of Thyroid Cancer:

  • Genetic cause: The person with thyroid cancer has the highest risk of cancer from the genes.
  • Radiation: Carcinogen is a popular radiation. These radiation cause carcinogenic changes.
  • Diabetes: Increased insulin resistance and TSH levels can increase the risk of thyroid cancer in diabetes patients.
  • Hormone: Estrogen plays an important role in thyroid cancer. The study has revealed that women who underwent hysterectomy (uterine removal surgery) had a higher risk of thyroid cancer.
  • Lifestyle: Taking high amounts of nitrates in the diet and food additives can also cause thyroid cancer. Smoking and lack of physical activity can also play an important role in causing thyroid cancer.
  • Autoimmunity: Patients with Graves disease and Hashimoto thyroiditis have a higher risk of thyroid cancer.

Risk factor:

  • Women are at higher risk of this
  • Genetic
  • TSH label increase
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation
Note:- It cannot be said clearly that iodine is related to thyroid cancer. Some studies have shown that inadequate iodine intake can cause thyroid cancer, while several studies indicate that iodine-rich seafood increases the likelihood of thyroid cancer. Therefore, it is not clear how iodine causes thyroid cancer. Therefore, it is better that you take the right and appropriate amount of iodine.

Prevention of Thyroid Disease

Hyperthyroidism

The apparent cause of hyperthyroidism has not yet been known, due to which the prevention of this problem is also difficult. However, the risk of hyperthyroidism can be reduced by removing stress and smoking addiction and with the help of a balanced diet.

Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is caused by genetic and hormonal causes, so it is difficult to stop it. However, investigation and treatment of this disease is quite easy. Adequate iodine intake and a balanced diet can help prevent hypothyroidism.

Thyroid Cancer

Prevention of thyroid cancer is also very difficult. However, detecting the faulty gene and removing the thyroid gland can help prevent cancer. The risk of thyroid cancer can also be reduced by not being more exposed to radiation.

Treatment of Thyroid Disease

Hyperthyroidism

The following treatments are available for hyperthyroidism such as-
  • Medications: Radioactive iodine ablation, anti-thyroid drugs such as neomercazole (to slow the release of hormones) and anti-inflammatory medications (to relieve symptoms) are advised.
  • Surgical removal of the affected part of the thyroid gland or thyroidectomy.
  • Use of artificial tears to relieve dryness of eyes.

Lifestyle Changes:

Apart from medicines, thyroid gland activation can also be monitored by making some lifestyle changes. Regular health checkups, quitting smoking and yoga can help control thyroid problems. A balanced diet with vitamins, protein, calcium, iodine and magnesium can also help in relieving the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and improving overall health.

Hypothyroidism

Regular thyroxine supplements are the most common treatment for hypothyroidism. After the start of treatment, regular blood tests should be done so that the dose can be changed according to the hormone level in the blood. In Ayurveda many herbs are used to treat hypothyroidism. You can talk to your doctor about the use and dosage of Ayurvedic medicines to treat hypothyroidism.

Lifestyle Changes:

Apart from medication, thyroid hormone levels can be controlled with the help of checkups, exercise and yoga.

Thyroid Cancer

Treatment for thyroid cancer depends on its type and level of thyroid cancer. The following treatments are generally available for the treatment of thyroid cancer:
  • Surgery: The whole or part of the thyroid gland and the lymph nodes of the neck are removed by surgery.
  • The remaining thyroid tissue after surgery is removed with radioactive iodine therapy.
  • Radiation therapy
  • Chemotherapy: Intravenous anti-cancer drugs.
  • Targeted therapy: eliminating cancerous tissues with drugs.

Lifestyle changes:

A balanced diet, regular exercise, and non-smoking can help control thyroid cancer to some extent.

Risk and Complications of Thyroid Disease

Hyperthyroidism

Treatment is selected based on age, sex, and patient's condition. If left untreated on time, the disease can increase and affect the eyes and skin. The following types of difficulties can be encountered due to hyperthyroidism such as -
  • Cardiovascular diseases such as stroke and hot failure
  • Paralysis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Infertility due to irregular menstruation
  • Thyroid storm in the part where thyroid hormone is released in some quantity

Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism can be treated with regular doses of thyroxine. If taken with the right treatment, then there can be a serious problem due to hypothyroidism like-
  • Atherosclerosis (deposition of cholesterol inside the arteries) can cause problems when the thyroid gland is less active. In some cases, it can also cause the thyroid gland to enlarge to meet hormonal requirements.
  • Apart from this, a condition of myxedema coma can also occur due to hypothyroidism. Myxedema coma is a very dangerous condition. It is characterized by very low production of thyroid hormone.

Thyroid Cancer

Cancerous cells can be prevented from growing with the help of timely screening and treatment. Carcinoma can cause cardiovascular and metabolic problems by affecting thyroid hormone levels such as-
  • The cancer can spread to nearby areas and affect the function of the vocal tract. It can also spread to the lymph nodes due to which it can become more difficult.

Note:-

Thyroid treatment advice:

The thyroid can be easily controlled by getting the endocrinologist examined at the right time. Some changes in lifestyle, intake of regular medicines and periodic checkups can help control the thyroid and prevent it from taking serious forms.

Psoriasis: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Prevention & Treatment

World Psoriasis Day: If you are also troubled by psoriasis, know it's symptoms!

[A complete guide of psoriasis]

World Psoriasis Day is observed on 29 October worldwide. This time the global theme has given a lot of emphasis on its symptoms. Let us tell you that around 1250 million people are affected by this serious disease, 3% of the population worldwide. You will be surprised to know that it cannot be eradicated from the root. Know everything about the symptoms of psoriasis as well as the disease.

Today, skin disease is a common problem, one of these skin diseases is psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin rash is not an infectious disease. It is a recurrent disease that can get worse and worse over time. Psoriasis has been characterized by an autoimmune reaction. Disturbance of the immune system of the body is considered to be the reason. Our skin takes about 28 days to replace cells and to form new cells, but the skin of people suffering from psoriasis produces new cells in just 4 to 5 days. This causes the cells to freeze, this causes red, dry and itchy patches on the skin.

Symptoms of Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a recurring disease that affects your skin. It is very itchy on the skin and sometimes the skin can become inflamed if the condition gets worse. Sometimes you can also feel pain. As a result of this, you may also have to face small flaky spots on the skin, dry, torn skin from which blood can come out. Many times blisters start forming on your skin. The need for constant itching can be very annoying. Psoriasis also affects the joints and can also cause inflammation in the joints. Arthritis is a car in which there is swelling and pain in the joints. This disorder may have some mental effects.

Causes of Psoriasis

Some of the main reasons may be:

  1. Genetic Causes: Genetics is considered the most popular cause for psoriasis. It is believed that if a parent has psoriasis, then the child is likely to develop this disease up to 15%. If both parents have this disease, then the children can get this disease up to 60%.
  2.  Immunity System: The immune system experiences an abnormal reaction in which it begins to attack healthy skin cells. Our immune system is usually responsible for attacking viruses and bacteria, but due to many reasons, the body's immune system starts damaging its own body parts and causes many diseases. This produces new skin cells that are ready to form this scale patch.
  3.  Bacterial Infection: Sometimes viral or bacterial infection can also be a reason for psoriasis. Sometimes, psoriasis can occur at the place of injury or around it due to injury to the skin. Activation of genes in some environmental conditions may also be a reason behind psoriasis.
  4.  Stress and Food: In Ayurveda, it is believed that eating too much uneven food together (curd and fish) can cause dosha imbalance. Therefore, excessive consumption of garlic, oil-rich food, seafood or spicy food, junk food can also cause psoriasis. Stress and mental disorders can also play a major role in psoriasis.

Prevention of Psoriasis

You can reduce this skin disorder with some effective measures:

  1. Food to Eat: In this problem, you should use green leafy vegetables, legumes, pulses, fruits etc. These foods have anti-inflammatory properties and some foods are rich in fiber which help in getting the body out of dirt. You should avoid eating too much salty food. Do not consume rust food at all and eat easily digestible food. Very sour food is not suitable for you. Do not drink alcohol and smoke at all.
  2. Skin Care: Protect your skin especially. When there is a cut in the open part of your skin, it becomes a way for bacteria and virus to enter. Do not let your skin dry. To keep it healthy, do a moisturizer so that the skin remains moist all the time.
  3. Stress Management: Psoriasis is not caused by stress, but there is a risk of developing psoriasis disease when there is stress in psoriasis. For this you can also do yoga and exercise which will improve blood circulation in your body. It also helps in keeping the skin healthy.

Diagnosis of Psoriasis

Two tests are necessary to diagnose psoriasis:

  1. Physical examination: Most doctors diagnose psoriasis with a simple test. During this test, show your doctor the skin with psoriasis and also tell if any family member has got psoriasis.
  2. Biopsy: If the symptoms are not clear or doctors want to confirm their suspected diagnosis then they take a small sample of skin. This is known as a biopsy. The skin is sent to a laboratory where it is examined under a microscope. The test can diagnose your type of psoriasis. It also diagnoses other possible disorders or infections. Most biopsies are done at your doctor's office on the day of your appointment.

Psoriasis Treatment

There is no cure for psoriasis. The aim of treatment is to reduce inflammation, slow the growth of skin cells. There are three categories of psoriasis treatment:

  1. Topical treatment: Cream and ointment are applied directly to the skin to reduce mild to moderate psoriasis.
  2. Systemic medicines: People with severe psoriasis through the medium and those who have not been affected by other lazos are required to use oral or injected medicines.
  3. Light therapy: It uses ultraviolet natural light to treat psoriasis. Both UVA and UVB can be useful in reducing mild to moderate psoriasis symptoms. Most people with moderate to severe psoriasis benefit from a combination of treatments. More than one type of treatment may be used to reduce symptoms in this type of treatment. Some people use the same treatment throughout their life. If the effect of treatment used on their skin ends, then sometimes they need to change the treatment.
